Not too long ago, it looked like the Penguins were a lock for the Stanley Cup Final. I even told my wife that we would try to go to one of the games at the Consol Energy Center, just assuming that those games would exist. That’s very much in doubt at this point. The Penguins looked better Wednesday night, but 2-1 or 9-0, a loss is a loss and the series stands at Bruins 3 – Penguins 0.
The good news? A comeback is “possible.” You wouldn’t want to bet on it though. Only 3 times out of 172 tries has a team come back to win a series after being down 3-0. That’s a success rate of 1.7 percent. The latest victory was 2010, when the Philadelphia Flyers came back to beat the — Boston Bruins. So, there’s hope. In addition, how many of those teams had players such as Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and James Neal, just to name a few? Who knows, maybe the Penguins talent will show up tonight, warding off elimination for at least another game. To paraphrase Al Michaels, do you believe in miracles…….maybe.
